COVID-19 - ** CRITICAL CDC ORDER UPDATE **
In one of his first acts as Commander in Chief, President Biden has directed the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to extend its September 4, 2020 order which sought to temporarily halt residential evictions for non-payment of rent. President Biden has indicated that he wants the order extended through at least March 31, 2021.
In a statement posted on January 20, 2021, CDC Director Rochelle P. Walensky stated that she “will extend the current order temporarily halting residential evictions until at least March 31, 2021.” At this time there has been no official Executive Order nor has there been an updated order from the CDC extending the order itself. Landlords should prepare themselves for the imminent extension of the CDC Order through at least March 31, 2021. As such, Landlords seeking to evict tenants will need to complete the Landlord Verification form that was published by our Firm in December. This form is required to process any eviction and is available on the Firm’s website AND below.
